Inflation rate reduces to 24.48 per cent in January

Inflation reduced to 24.48 per cent in January 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The Statistician of the Federation and the CEO of NBS, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, made this known in a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. He also said food inflation was 26.08 per cent year-on-year. According to him, the new figure was as result of the rebasing of Nigeria’s inflation basket to keep it updated to international standard. He recalled that the country last rebased its inflation in 2009, thus using prices of goods prominent during the period.Adeniran said the rebasing process also allows Statistical Offices to introduce methodological enhancements to their computation procedures and align with global best practices. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who inaugurated the initiative at the 148th NEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, called on governors, ministers, local government chairmen, and private sector stakeholders to take urgent and decisive action to improve Nigeria’s nutrition indicators. According to him, the consequences of malnutrition transcend the health sector, forming the foundation of the calamities that limit productivity, learning and the nation’s growth.

  Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed that Ademola Lookman will be part of his squad for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off against Club Brugge.  Lookman, who suffered a knee injury during training last month, has been sidelined for La Dea’s last six matches across all competitions. With his assets valued at $23.9b, business mogul Aliko Dangote is 86th richest in the world, according to Forbes magazine. He retained his position as Africa’s wealthiest person. The entrepreneur’s wealth, according to the magazine, surged 100 per cent in 12 months.He moved to his present position from number 144 in the last year’s ranking which put his network then at $13.4 billion. The magazine estimates Dangote’s net worth at $23.9  92.3 per cent stake in Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals. Portable arrives Ogun Police HQ

  Singer Portable has arrived at the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta to answer questions over an attack on officials of the Town Planning Agency. Portable was declared wanted for assault on some officials of the state Town Planning Agency who were carrying out enforcement on his property in the Ilogbo area of the state.In a statement on Wednesday, Ogun police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable was in their custody.She said, “The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025. “His presence at the SCID is connected to an ongoing investigation.
